(A Junior Boy's Story)

The Boys' Brigade.A Junior Section member gives us his account of what goes on in his section on a typical Wednesday evening:

“I get there just before 6.25 and give my money to Molly.  I then walk over to the colouring table where Daniel and Eileen give out the colouring and I colour a picture while I wait for my friends to come.  When Mr Holgate is ready he asks everyone to line up in our different ‘squads’ and we get marked by one person, either Mr Holgate, Daniel or Mr Short.  We get points if we are here on time, for our uniform, and how clean our hands are.

After we finished lining up we go to a corner and sit on benches and we learn about the bible.  Mr Short is very funny - everyone listens.  Then we pray to God about what we talked about.  Next is my favourite bit, we play games which Mr Short and Daniel set up.  I like playing Cat and Mouse because we are all mice and this cat has to run around and chase us and pull our tail out!  I sometimes win.  We play different games every week.  I also like the game that Mr Parker plays with us when he is helping us.  He shouts different things and we have to run to different sides of the room but sometimes he can be silly and put us off by pointing the wrong way.

After we finish our games we line up by the kitchen and Helen gives us a drink and sometimes if were good we also get a biscuit.  After a little rest we go to do our badge work.  Each officer has a different group of people who learn all different things.  Then we do something that is different every week.  Sometimes we play bells, sometimes we sing and sometimes we watch videos.  Then we line up in the squads again and pray for the future and then we are dismissed and we get our sweets and go home.  I like coming to Boys Brigade - I’ve made lots of friends.”
