Rev Colin Speed
(Minister: 1982 - 2000)

Our Minister - Rev. Colin Speed. The Rev. Colin Speed came to Whitstable (his first church) in 1982 after completing his Theological training at Bristol Baptist College.

Born and bred in Watford, Hertfordshire, and brought up in a Methodist church, he moved to a Baptist Church with his family when the children became teenagers.

Colin was a mature student, having experienced life working as a butcher, then with an insurance company as well as performing his National Service in the RAF.  These varied experiences were to prove useful when faced with the pastoral care aspects of ministry, here in Whitstable.

During his ministry, Colin has introduced a number of changes in our style of worship and has encouraged involvement and participation by individual members of our fellowship.

On a practical note, Colin has overseen the development and improvement of our buildings involving considerable renovation and alteration.  We now have a bright and welcoming place in which to worship our God.

Colin and Iris enjoying their retirement. Some of his time has been taken up with care in the community as Colin is Chaplain to our local hospital and also to a KCC Residential Home.

Colin is married to Iris and they have a grown up son and daughter, both married with children.

At the end of November 2000, we sadly said goodbye to Colin and Iris but we rejoice with them in all that they achieved in their ministry with us.

We wish them every happiness and God’s richest blessing in their new home in Somerset as they enjoy their retirement
